What is the significance of the skier in your advertising?
The skier is Sigurd Rockne, Carol's husband and Barrie's father-in-law. Sigurd had the honor in his native country of Norway of 1st in downhill (1953 and 1954), 1st in slalom (1955), 2nd in Giant Slalom (1954 and 1955) and 2nd in Downhill (1955). He was a favorite to win gold medals in the 1956 Olympics but unfortunately broke his leg in practice 1 week before the big event. Sigurd was Champion skier, he also was one of the pioneers in helping develop Breckenridge Ski Area and owned and operated the first Breckenridge Ski School.
When we started our company we wanted to define our company with a simple, yet powerful statement, in the form of a slogan. We were going through some old pictures of Sigurd's days of skiing competition and happened upon the picture taken when he won the Norwegian Slalom Championship in 1955. The idea was born to use "Champion" in our slogan. We felt the word, and it's different definitions, all described how we view ourselves and the services Colorado West Real Estate Group offers to the public. Sigurd's leaving his native Norway to make his life in Breckenridge represents the pioneering spirit that put Colorado on the map. His involvement in the town and ski area have helped form the character that so many people have come to like about Breckenridge. The pictures of Sigurd skiing also represent a person having fun doing something they love. I think we can all relate to that.
