Nordic Center Opening near Breckenridge Homes on Ski Hill Drive

Breckenridge Nordic Center’s Cleanup Day is tomorrow November 6, 2012 in preparation for opening day on November 10, snow permitting. Located near homes in Breckenridge Ski Resort, the Nordic Center is a favorite for those who love cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Spectacular Breckenridge real estate near Cucumber Gulch Preserve opens to trails maintained by Breckenridge Nordic Center.

The classic Nordic Chalet at Peaks 6 & 7 in the White River National Forest welcomes skiers to its wood-burning stoves, a retail and rental shop, and lessons and adventures. Trails traverse the old spruce forests and scenic overlooks and the Cucumber Gulch Preserve. The New Nordic World on Peaks 6 & 7 in the White River National Forest feature greater seclusion in the wilds of almost 1400 acres. Some snowshoe trails allow dogs on leashes.

Breckenridge Nordic Center features daily groomed, mapped, and marked trail systems for self-guided adventures. By reservation, Breckenridge Nordic Center also offers interpretive guided adventures on Peaks 7 & 8. Avid cross-country skiers and snowshoers dip into three warming huts along the trails. Josee’s Cabin is located below the Breckenridge Nordic Center Lodge on the Beaver Meadow Trail. The Historic Hallelujah Hut and Kathy’s Viewpoint Cabin and Sauna are nestled into the White River National Forest on Peak 7.

To get started with cross-country skiing, lessons are recommended. The staff at the Breckenridge Nordic Center love to teach beginners and hesitant skiers. They teach effective skills and drills for easy gliding on the snow. Lessons are offered four times daily, both private and private group sessions are included. Children also enjoy playing areas, a slide and sledding hill, an igloo and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows and brats.

Nordic Season Passes allow holders to use trails at Breckenridge/Goal Run and Frisco Nordic centers. Day and multi-day trail passes and group discounts are also available. Equipment rental is available for $8-$28 per day. The package includes skis and/or snowshoes with Nordic boots and poles.

The Nordic center is open from November 10, 2012 through April 15, 2013. Facilities are open all seven days each week from 9 AM to 4 PM.
