Situated in the heart of Colorado's Rocky Mountains, historic Breckenridge real estate is perched 9603 feet (2927 meters) above sea level at the base of the Continental Divide's western slope.  General George F. Spencer established the Town of Breckenridge in January 1860 during the rush to settle the West.  Beautifully restored samples of authentic Breckenridge homes from that era currently reflect the Victorian heritage of yesteryear.

Through to the 1880s, the number of Breckenridge CO homes continued to grow in the important gold mining and supply location.  Breckenridge became even more popular with the discovery of Colorado's largest gold nugget, "Tom's Baby."  However, the Great Depression and World War II subsequently took their toll on the Breckenridge community, reducing it to near-ghost-town status.  The era of gold mining was gone forever.  Nonetheless, a few hardy citizens hung on and continued to maintain the little Town of Breckenridge.

On December 13, 1961, Rounds and Porter, a Wichita lumber company, opened the first ski runs on Peak 8.  Admission was only $4 per day.  That day, a new era was born.  A beautiful collection of Breckenridge CO real estate today offers second homes, vacation properties, Colorado ski real estate, and golf estate for buyers from around the world.  The community is now one of the most popular ski resorts in the world.

Thus the little mountain town that arose out of the gold rush currently depends on the "white gold" or snow that beckons people from around the world to vacation.  A good year of snow means substantially more visitors filling up the lovely mountain chalets and slope-side villas.  Set in the Ten Mile Range near the Continental Divide, the resorts welcomes skiers and riders to every type of terrain, terrain parks, developments and skier amenities.

However, stories of the quaint and colorful historical background add a rich heritage that is unique to this area, a wealth of tales hiding behind the rocks and rivers that still waits the newcomer's discovery.
