Summit County Colorado real estate in Dillon clusters around fabulous Lake Dillon and vast recreational and community activities.  Dillon Summit County properties are located south of Interstate 70 on the northeastern shore of Dillon Reservoir, a fresh-water reservoir commonly referred to as Lake Dillon.

Downtown Dillon features a limited number of older homes and condos.  Other homes in Dillon are located in neighborhoods such as Three Peaks, Ruby Ranch, and Willow Brooks.  Several neighborhoods of Silverthorne and Frisco CO homes are also at the lake.  All Dillon CO real estate is near popular Summit County ski resorts--Keystone, Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, and Breckenridge--with easy access via the free Summit County shuttle systems.

Less than 1000 residents call Dillon Colorado home full time.  Yet thousands come to enjoy its friendly atmosphere, marina, restaurants, live theater, dancing, concerts and outstanding water sport amenities.  Dillon is also known for the Dillon Marina and amphitheater, its batting cage and bowling alley, and museum telling the story of an unusual past.

One of the highest lakes in North America, Lake Dillon sits at 9,017 feet above sea level.  It features 26.8 miles of shoreline and an average depth of 79 feet, all adding up to an encatchment area of 330 square miles.  Most important to residents and visitors to Summit County CO homes, Lake Dillon features a series of sailing regattas, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, ice-fishing, and numerous on-shore trails.

Dillon has literal historical depth.  In the mid-1800s, the town of Dillon, a thriving trading post, perched on the banks of the Blue River.  Only a small finger lake at the time, Dillon Reservoir was noticed during the gold rush.  After a series of decisions addressing the water needs for the City of Denver, in 1961 the City began enlarging the reservoir.  Some original historic buildings were moved to the present location and the original town was flooded.  It can still be seen underwater.

Volunteers enhance the rich tapestry of Dillon, helping to produce a wealth of community events and activities.  Seasonal and full-time residents assist with Farmers Markets, children’s programs, Friday Night Concert Series, Tributes to our Soldiers, parks and recreations, public hikes and walks, BOCCE clinics, and much more.  Folks come out for Clean Up Day and Weed Pulling Day, and help maintain the trails.  Signature events include the 4th of July Celebrations, Lighting of Dillon, BBQ at the Summit.  And they offer ideas for governance.

Summit County School District serves the families at Dillon Valley Elementary, Summit Middle School, and Summit High School.  Colorado Mountain College operates two campuses in Summit County, one in Dillon and another in Breckenridge.
